Private Events Assistant

Job Summary:

The Private Events Assistant will support the Private Events Manager in coordinating and executing private parties, special events, and table reservations at Strong Rope Brewery’s Brooklyn locations in Gowanus and Red Hook. This role is essential for ensuring smooth communication, efficient planning, and successful event execution, including the seamless management of table reservations. The Assistant needs to work well under pressure and will work closely with internal teams, vendors, and clients to provide comprehensive administrative and operational support for all aspects of our events program, which ranges from reservations of as few as 10 people through private buyouts of up to 450 guests.

As an integral part of our events team, the Private Events Assistant will play a key role in ensuring that each private event reflects the unique spirit and quality of Strong Rope Brewery. This position offers a dynamic work environment where attention to detail, proactive communication, a calm demeanor, and a passion for hospitality will directly contribute to the success of our events and overall client satisfaction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Client & Communication Support:

    • Assist in managing event inquiry submissions via online form and the private events inbox and serve as a secondary point of contact for inquiries related to private parties, table reservations, and special events.

    • Help respond to client questions, schedule appointments, and confirm event and reservation details in a timely manner under the guidance of the Private Events Manager.

  • Event & Reservation Coordination:

    • Aid in tracking contracts, event details, and scheduling follow-ups using internal management systems.

    • Assist in taking and overseeing table reservations, ensuring that client seating requirements and taproom bookings are accurately documented and coordinated.

    • Coordinate with the Taproom Manager, production team, and vendors in managing a busy calendar and ensuring there are no conflicts between private events and taproom events/production before booking.

    • Provide on-site support during events, assisting with setup, staffing coordination, bar support, and breakdown operations.

  • Administrative Support:

    • Maintain clear and detailed documentation of all event communications, table reservations, and logistics.

    • Assist with the preparation of event proposals, contracts, and post-event follow-ups.

    • Help coordinate meetings and internal communications to keep all team members informed about upcoming events and reservations.

  • Vendor & Staff Coordination:

    • Support the Private Events Manager in liaising with external vendors and service providers when necessary.

    • Assist in ensuring that staffing needs are met on event days by coordinating schedules and communicating specific event and reservation requirements.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated strong customer service skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Experience in hospitality, event planning, or customer service is highly desirable.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a friendly and professional demeanor.

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive in problem-solving.

  • Passionate about craft beer with a willingness to learn more, plus an understanding of the brewery’s history and focus.

  • Familiarity with Strong Rope Brewery’s brand, beer offerings, and event spaces is a plus.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by event and reservation schedules.

  • Familiarity with Airtable, Canva, Square, and Google Workspace is a plus.

  • Must be at least 21 years of age and eligible to work in the United States.

Working Conditions:

  • 30-40 hours per week, including weekends and nights.

  • Flexibility to work remote (with manager approval) and onsite event environments as needed.

  • Ability to stand for long periods (up to 10 hours) during events.

  • Capability to lift heavy materials and full kegs safely as required for event setup and breakdown.

Compensation:

  • Pay: Hourly rate of $18-25, commensurate with experience, plus tips when working private events and parties.

Seasonal Beertender

Job Summary:

Strong Rope Brewery is seeking enthusiastic, craft beer-loving Seasonal Beertenders to join our taproom teams in Gowanus and Red Hook, Brooklyn for our busy summer season. In this role, you will act as an ambassador to Strong Rope’s taprooms, creating a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere that is essential to the culture of our space. You will deliver exceptional customer service, ensure a clean and organized taproom, and share your passion and knowledge of craft beer with every guest.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Engage with patrons to provide an outstanding beer experience, including sharing the history of Strong Rope Brewery, explaining beer styles, and recommending beers based on guest preferences.

  • Take orders promptly, operate the bar with meticulous attention to detail, and ensure that all supplies are fully stocked.

  • Clear and wash glassware efficiently while maintaining a neat and organized taproom environment, including resetting furniture and decor, and cleaning tables.

  • Periodically monitor and maintain the cleanliness of bathroom facilities, including sweeping, emptying trash, and refilling supplies.

  • Change kegs and restock beer as needed, ensuring continuous quality of service.

  • Use the Point of Sale system (Square) to accurately record orders, track inventory, and process payments.

  • Possess comprehensive knowledge of all products to answer customer questions thoughtfully and respectfully.

  • Follow established opening and closing guidelines.

  • Clearly communicate any challenges or changes to managers and team members.

  • Clear knowledge and understanding of all non-beer offerings at Strong Rope Brewery, including, but not limited to, wine, spirits, and cider.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with a wide range of beer offerings, styles, and the history/focus of Strong Rope Brewery.

  • A genuine interest in further developing personal beer knowledge and palate.

  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to handle high-volume, fast-paced bar environments calmly and efficiently.

  • Prior NYC bartending/serving experience is a plus.

  • Availability to work evenings and weekends.

  • Friendly, enthusiastic, and self-motivated with excellent communication skills (both verbal and nonverbal).

  • Must be 21+ years of age.

  • Cicerone Certified Beer Server a plus.

Working Conditions:

  • Variable schedule but must be available nights and weekends for approximately 10-20/hrs per week.

  • Season April-October.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 10 hours per day).

  • Capable of safely lifting heavy materials and full kegs repeatedly.

Compensation:

  • $13.50/hr + tips ($16/hr guaranteed).

  • Vacation/personal/sick days: Earn 1 hour for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 40 hours per year.
