This month’s First Friday exhibit features oil paintings by Miguel Reyes in partnership with Arts Gowanus and BierWax.
“Intimate Nature” is a series of oil paintings that began during the isolation of the 2020 pandemic. It explores the quiet vitality of the plants that decorate the artist’s Brooklyn apartment. These paintings capture the contrast between confinement and growth, nostalgia and renewal. In this intimate space, nature flourishes, offering a source of inspiration and a reminder of life’s resilience.
Born in the bustling city of Mexico City and currently based in Brooklyn, Miguel Reyes is a painter whose work has captured hearts on both sides of the Atlantic, showcasing his art in galleries and cultural spaces in the United States, Spain, France, and Mexico. His work is distinguished by its thematic focus on nature and its expression through brushstrokes. With echoes of impressionism, he creates small, evocative paintings in which each stroke, precise and carefully executed, is imbued with freshness and distinction, transporting the viewer to a world of timeless beauty.
Along with Reyes’s paintings on display, we’ll have DJ Minister Maestro of BierWax spinning tunes for the opening. Reyes’s work will be on display throughout the months of April and May, but come take in the art and music with us this Friday!
