We hop burst this batch to give it a wonderfully spicy and fruity aroma and flavor with a very smooth and subtle bitterness. Tyson Ho likes swine. Joshua M. Bernstein and Chris Cuzme? They like beer.
To combine these two great life pleasures, the comrades-in-consumption are putting on Solstice Session at the Arrogant Swine. (That'd be Ho's in-the-works North Carolina-style BBQ joint.)
Pitmaster Ho will slow-roast a pig and serve pulled pork sandwiches. (Don't worry: veggies will have food too.) To drink, Cuzme and Bernstein have assembled the city's best session meads, cider and beer--that is, low alcohol but not low in flavor. And perfect for drinking all afternoon.
We've enlisted 10 of the city's best homebrewers to make session beers, then we've tabbed NYC's best local breweries to make low-alcohol beauties too. That means you, Barrier, Finback, Transmitter, Bridge and Tunnel, SingleCut, KelSo, 508, Greenpoint Beer and Ale, Bridge and Tunnel and Rockaway. There will be more than 20 unique, rarely tasted session brews on offer, from sours to saisons, IPAs and everything in between.
You'll enjoy 'em in more than 3,000 square feet of outside industrial paradise, with picnic tables and plenty of cornhole too. Better still: June 21 is the Summer Solstice, meaning that today is the first, and longest, day of summer. There's no better way to kick off the summer.
Tickets are currently sold out, but be on the lookout for more tickets close to the session!

Carroll Gardens and Gowanus Homebrew Tour: 9/22/2010
We're on the list for another homebrew tour from our very own NYC beer journalist Joshua M. Bernstein, the author of Brewed Awakening and The Complete Beer Course.
Today's tour is going to be really fun. We'll start the tour off by visiting Jason Sahler, who is planning the forthcoming Strong Rope Brewery. In time for hop-harvest season, he'll be brewing a few fresh-hop beers--most likely a session white IPA with local wheat and a few other treats.
Next, we're headed down the road to meet Isaac Deutsch, who will be pouring a smoky Rauchbier, pale ale and perhaps a coffee stout.
Lastly, we're going to finish up in Simon Tepas' backyard. At this year's National Homebrew Competition, Simon won a silver medal for his rye-fueled double IPA. Today, he'll be serving a red IPA, hoppy wheat beer and tastes of his sour beers and burly aged Belgian quads. Get your tickets here.
Update: This tour is now sold out. Email Josh at josh.bernstein [AT] gmail.com, and he'll add you to the mailing list for tours and events.
