The Staten Island Yankees, Flagship Brewing Co. and Ho'Brah Tacos are joining forces for the Unforgettable IPA & Taco Festival from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, June 10 at the Richmond County Bank Ballpark at St. George.
Will Smith, president/operating partner of the S.I. Yanks, praised his new teammates at a press conference announcing the ambitious event:
"It's a pleasure to partner with two local, small businesses to pull off a great event in a dynamic setting," Smith said. "... It's an opportunity for fans and community members to have more fun and experience life on Staten Island."
Flagship co-founders Jay Sykes and Matthew McGinley touted tastes of classic ("and eclectic") India Pale Ales.
"The Flagship Brewing Company has always wanted a premier craft beer and food festival here on Staten Island," Sykes said. "Bringing together the best NYC craft breweries with the most sought after taco restaurants at a fantastic venue like the Richmond County Bank Ballpark will not only raise awareness of our local businesses but of the North Shore of Staten Island as a whole."
Tom Casatelli, co-owner of Ho'Brah, represented the food angle: Samples from "premier taco joints and food trucks from all five boroughs."
Ian Fontenot, director of communications & entertainment for the S.I. Yanks, said the Unforgettable Fest is "inspired by the North Shore's pioneer spirit ... Visionaries who recognized St. George as the city's newest and most exciting frontier neighborhood have birthed this festival to shine a light on our beloved fifth and forgotten borough."
Borough President James Oddo also showed up to help usher in a "wonderful collaboration."
"To see it playing out like this is a great thing for Staten Island," said BP Oddo. "It's really wonderful to see what continues to unfold along the North Shore corridor."
The Unforgettable Fest also will feature live DJs, hot sauce giveaways, stadium tours, home brew demonstrations and much, much more.
