Yesterday I had the opportunity to join the inaugural meeting of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce's Industrial and Manufacturing Coalition. It was graciously hosted by Colin Spoelman owner of Kings County Distillery at their amazing facility in the 113 year old Paymaster building in the Brooklyn Navy Yard and catered by Dave Liati and 61 Local (full disclosure, i recently took a job behind the bar at 61 Local, but I loved that place before that.)
While last nights event was mostly a meet and greet it was setting the foundations to really bring the light manufacturing and craft artisans of Brooklyn to the forefront and hopefully help them as new business emerge and existing ones expand.
There was a great turnout of Brooklyn's craftsman. Craftsman from Joel Bukiewicz of Cut Brooklyn, and Kelly Taylor of Kelso Beer Co., to Sabrina Valle of The Jam Stand and Zack Bruner of Industry City Distillery.
Not only did we get a tour and tasting at Kings County Distillery, but we were led on a tour of the new Brooklyn Grange rooftop farm in the Navy Yard, by the COO of the Grange, Gwen Schantz. The Brooklyn Grange is a massive rooftop farm that covers over 65,000 square feet!
Here are a couple pics that represent the day we had. Cheers and keep an eye out for more happenings with the I&M Coalition.
