This past weekend, I had the pleasure to take part in a great beer and food competition, Brew n' Chew at The Diamond beer bar in Greenpoint, Brookln. 5 teams were entered and created unique beer and food pairings. The public voted on the best beer, the best food and the best pairing. Proceeds from ticket sales went to the New York Harbor School.
There were some great entries and it was just a wonderful time overall, only to be capped at the end with team Strong Rope taking home 1st place for the best beer and food pairing!
My teammate Michael Ferreri, a chef from Philidelphia, and I created a really unique and tasty pairing. The beer was J.J. Bollerack's Brown Ale which was paired with a homemade black sesame seed and hawaiian sea salt caramel brittle, topped with a mousse made from Rogue Creamery smoked over hazelnut blue cheese, and a dark cherry compote.
A big congrats to the other winners, Johnathan Moxey for his Hibiscus and Pink Pepper Corn Saison and the Duck Buddies for their spicy Duck Pistols.
Check out some photos of the event.
